Confirmation scheduled for March 1, 2020

Bishop Brewer will be coming to St. Barnabas for a service of Confirmation on Sunday, March 1st.  Classes begin with a     combination newcomer luncheon and confirmation    preparation on Sunday,   February 2nd , after the 11:00 service, in the Canterbury House.  Those who wish to continue with the   preparation will come on subsequent Sundays from 12:30 to 2:00 through February 23rd.   The goal will be to prepare adults and 8th graders or above who wish to “express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” (Book of Common Prayer p. 860).  Please speak with a member of the clergy if you have any questions.

Ash Wednesday schedule

Wednesday February 26 is the beginning of the Season of Lent.  We will have services of Holy Eucharist with the imposition of ashes at 10:22 a.m. (School Service), 12:10 noon, and at 6:30 p.m.  Ashes made from the burning of palm crosses made last year for Palm  Sunday will be used by clergy to form the sign of the cross on the    foreheads of those participating in the Ash Wednesday   services.  “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall  return.” BCP 265.

Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross are observed each Friday at 5:30 p.m. during Lent. This devotion stems from the tradition of  pilgrims offering prayer at a series of places in Jerusalem that are associated with our Lord’s passion and death. The litany takes about 20 minutes. All are encouraged to attend the special service, and a sign-up sheet is posted in the back of the church for those who wish to lead the Stations
